Hike of Boynton Park & Cascades Waterfall

Worcester, Holden & Paxton, MA

Sunday September 4th, 2005

Most of us Our first Nature Connection hike of the year was a beautiful, sunny Sunday afternoon. We got a lot more than we bargained for when four times as many people showed up as we were expecting, but thanks to some extemporaneous carpooling all 23 of us made it to Boynton Park for the hike.

Tiny snake As we hiked down toward the waterfall, Jesaca's sharp eyes spotted a tiny snake in the middle of the trail. She moved it safely aside, and we continued our hike.

Top of the waterfall I drove my Chevy to the levy but the levy was dry... or in our case, it was the waterfall which was flowing only a trickle. It was a testimony to our very dry summer. Not to worry though. Without water flowing down we got to climb out onto the rocks and up the would-be waterfall; much to the delight of our resident rock climber Amanda.

Near the top of the waterfall we encountered a very small frog. Then when we stopped to rest, Laura went off to explore her own natural habitat.

Fuzzy thing clinging to tree Later, Greg spotted some strange tree decor. After a wrong turn or two, we got our bearings straight again and looped back to the parking area.
