JACOB NATHAN

The son of a South African defector and a California hippie, Jacob was born on the banks of the Muddy River in Boston, MA. He attended the "Paul" Pierce elementary school in Brookline where he steadily developed his game and developed a degree of infamous notoriety. Entering high school, Jacob began to submerge himself in to the world of music. Influenced by the mighty sensei of band music Carolyn Castellano (www.myspace.com/creativehighschoolmusic), Jacob began to form various musical groups outside of school. There was the terribly embarrassing "3 Jew Crew" which released a cassette tape on limited release in 2002. Of more significance, was the group "The Rising Sons"  (http://www.myspace.com/therisingsonsofrockandroll) who during their existence took a teenage adventure into the innocent and wild world of Rock and Roll. The group was a finalist for three consecutive years in the much-toted WBCN Battle of the High School bands. After the success they worked with Boston underground legend Dave Minehan to record an EP (http://www.parallaxproject.com/Old%20Site%20Files/Profiles/Dave.html) Years later they recorded with Shills Drummer James Zainer. The band has since moved on to various other projects. Jacob's current projects at Clark include "926 Main Street Apt. 2" (www.myspace.com/926mainstreetapt2) and "Wormtown Pond Collective" (www.myspace.com/wormtownpondcollective) as well as a developing solo project entitled "YAYcob/NAYcob."

Jacob is constantly venturing in to other fields within the music industry. During the summers he would intern with various Boston based management companies. He also began to organize benefit shows at the Brookline Community Center of the Arts. During this time he discovered many of the injustices that plagued the profit driven commercial music industry.

Upon entering college he formed DTS Productions an independent show promotion company back in Boston. The group briefly booked concerts at venues such as The Paradise, The Middle East, TT the Bears, and Great Scott.

At Clark, Jacob is the president of the Pub Entertainment Committee which books national touring acts and serves to organize Clark bands and the music community. The group has booked and produced shows featuring Santogold, Girl Talk, No Age, Fleet Foxes, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, Immortal Technique, Blitzen Trapper, Kimya Dawson, Dirty Projectors and countless others. The group also releases a yearly Clark Band music compilation CD entitled "It Came from the Grind…" To learn more about PEC visit http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=3173845192.

In 2007 Jacob was the Production head of the Major Events Committee Concert and subsequently he was the chairman of the concert in 2008.

As a finalist in the entrepreneurship contest at Clark, Jacob began preparations for a Clark University record label, which will hopefully soon be an off-chute of the Pub Entertainment Committee.

Currently he is working with ROCU to establish a digital music education program and build a recording studio at the Boys and Girls Club, Worcester. The kids at the club will come to "Junior DJ" week after completing their compositions.

Apart from music Jacob enjoys Japan, Baseball, freedom, celebration of the Dionysian and Apollonian, community, romanticizing Detroit, the acronym SWMMing, playing ping pong in his basement, the epicenter, and other obscure references he has chosen not to make. He is also the founder of Clark University Beard Enthusiasts. His musical taste is not limited to a particular genre. He hates bureaucracy.
