Trip Participation
Policy

for non-undergraduates

The Clark University Outing Club encourages everyone at Clark to get out and explore the outdoors, but exists as a club to serve Clark's undergraduate student population.

As an undergraduate student organization, the Outing Club is governed by an executive board composed of undergraduate students, and its membership is open to all Clark undergraduates. Funding for our trips and events is allocated to the club by the Clark Undergraduate Student Council (CUSC) from the annual $350 Student Activities Fee paid by all Clark undergraduate students. CUSC maintains this funding source "to help meet the educational, recreational, and social demands of the current Clark undergraduate student body."

Space on Outing Club trips is very limited, and priority is always given to current undergraduate students.

At the club's discretion, unfilled spaces on a club trip may be offered to others in the Clark community. To allow undergraduate students ample time to respond and to preserve the undergraduate character of our trips, any such offers are usually made no earlier than a day or two before the trip and may be limited in number. Note that our early fall trips tend to fill up most quickly, and often have long wait lists.

The announced prices we charge undergraduate participants for certain trips with per-capita costs (e.g. whitewater rafting, ziplining, rock climbing, etc.) are heavily subsidized by the student activities funding we receive. Any non-undergraduate participants would be expected to pay the full unsubsidized cost of their spots, which is apt to be substantially higher than our advertised prices.

For purposes of clarity, undergraduate students are those admitted to Clark through our office of Undergraduate Admissions and are generally enrolled full time. Other members of the Clark community from whom requests may be considered when extra space is available include:

We extend an extra effort to accommodate students enrolled in Clark's 5th year BA/MA programs, especially those who were active in the Outing Club as undergraduates.

In accordance with Clark's risk management practices, non-matriculated students and those not formally admitted into a Clark degree program (Bachelor's, Master's, PhD) are generally not eligible to particpate in Outing Club trips.

Guests (including alumni) must be approved in advance. Guest participation is at the discretion of the Outing Club and subject to space availability.

Exceptions to our policy are considered on a case by case basis. Questions my be directed to the Greg Doerschler, Outing Club advisor, in Clark's Institutional Research Office at gdoerschler@clarku.edu or 508-421-3773.
