Ali and Victoria After hibernating for the month of January, we were really eager to head back outdoors and have some fun in the snow! So on Feb 20th, a half dozen of us piled into the van and headed off for a day of Cross Country Skiing at Weston Ski Track in Weston, MA. The warm, sunny Saturday was perfect climate for us humans, and we were lucky that the newly fallen snow from a recent storm had not melted away yet. So we were treated to a great day of skiing.

Broad Meadow Brook The next day, seven of us headed across town to Worcester's Broad Meadow Brook Wildlife Sanctuary - one of our favorite local destinations - to explore the hiking trails on another nice, sunny Sunday afternoon. We headed across the Lady Slipper Trail (left) and stopped to chat with some ducks in the brook along the Troiano Tail, later ending up on the Sprague Trail (below).

Therese and Jill Following two days of rain and slush, we kept our fingers crossed that conditions would improve in time for our planned snow tubing trip at Ski Ward in Shrewsbury on Saturday, Feb. 27th. We got lucky! It turned out to be a gorgeous evening, featuring lightly falling snow and plenty of packed powder on the tubing hill. At left, Therese and Jill are ready to take the plunge.

The snow provided an alluring backdrop for us the next day as we explored the hiking trails of Burncoat Pond Wildlife Sanctuary in Spencer. Fun in the snow Deep in the snow, there was a lot happening here. The back of the group warily kept their distance.
Andrew Andrew fearlessly leads us down the trail... or at least we thought it was the trail! Whoops!

Therese (below) was deliriously happy in all the snow, even though we had to stop once or twice to dig Jill (right) out of a snow drift.

Skipping across a stream At one point we had to skip across a swollen stream bed on a series of rocks, a task Kirsten and Greg complete with great poise and finesse.
