Our eagerly anticipated weekend escape to the White Mountains began on Saturday morning when the seven of us
arrived in Gorham, NH and quickly hit the cross-country ski trails of Great Glen Outdoor Center. Amanda, Paula, Lana,
Steph and Elizabeth are seen here at the starting line ready for action.
|
Against the backdrop of the beautiful Presidential Range, we set out down the trail. We had an amazing day exploring all
the trails, fields and woods of Great Glen.
|
Lana and Amanda make their way through the woods on what turned out not to be a cross-country ski trail. They don't call it
backcountry skiing for nothing!
|
Oops... we can't exactly ski here (or walk, for that matter)!
|
Later, we amused ourselves on the tubing hill where none of us could stop laughing as we flew down the hill and bumped
into each other.
|
We then retired back to the Appalachian
Mountain Club's Joe Dodge Lodge for a delicious family style dinner at the foot of Mt. Washington. We ate at
big long tables where we met lots of other winter enthusiasts, many who were skiing down Tuckerman's Ravine!
After dinner a few of us saw a lecture about avalanche safety while others read and relaxed in the communal
dining room. Everyone slept tight in their bunk rooms preparing for our Sunday adventures.
|
Sunday was a bright and sunny, breezy day in the Whites. A few of us went cross country skiing on the trails around
the lodge while the others walked part of the way up Mt. Washington where we enjoyed great views and a few waterfalls,
and met all the skiers and snowboarders trekking their way up to Tuckerman's Ravine.

Connie's Way Ski Trail; one of trails we explored on Sunday.
|
Another Sunday scene. With visions like this, we'll be cherishing our weekend winter wonderland adventure for a long time.
