Snowshoeing Weekend

Groton, VT

February 27-29, 2004

Our cabin This weekend escape to the woods of northern Vermont was a fun and relaxing time for all. The ten of us arrived in Groton on Friday evening and snowshoed to the cabin by moonlight, carrying all of our supplies and equipment. We got settled and had a nice meal inside the snug little cabin with a fire going in the woodstove.

Snowshoes on rack The next day, we all donned snowshoes, grabbed snacks, and set out to explore the landscape atop two feet of snow.

Hilltop view Taking turns breaking the trail through the snow, we departed from the beaten track. We saw many animal tracks and signs of moose.

Trekking through the snow We reached the summit of a nearby hill and were treated to a gorgeous 360 degree view of the White Mountains, the Green Mountains, and Canada.

Smile! After a full day of snowshoeing (and napping afterwards) some of us were still not satisfied and got up early Sunday morning to watch the sun come up and explore some more. The weather was exceptionally clear and temperatures were warm for February. By 11AM, we were all packed up and on the road back to Clark.
