work site After three consecutive years, volunteering with the Greater Worcester Land Trust (GWLT) on Clark's annual day of service is fast becoming a tradition for us. This time we joined forces with Clark's Eco-Reps and took Cascades Park by storm with 19 volunteers! Working alongside another group of 9 volunteers from Clark's Student Alumni Relations Committee (SARC), our Just Do It Day site was bustling with activity!

The ever-gracious GWLT duo of Colin (Executive Director) and Mary (Volunteer Coordinator) were ecstatic to see such a vast sea of purple Just Do It Day T-shirts advance toward their trailhead. They quickly gave us our marching orders. Fueled by Colin's home baked cookies, we tackled one project after another at lightning speed.

On the trail next to the Cascades Waterfall, some of us installed log stairs in the switchbacks leading up the hillside.

yellow blazing team Others fanned out across the Boynton/Cascades Park trail system, clearing undergrowth and re-painting faded trail blazes of red, yellow and blue. The yellow blazing team easily won the diligence prize for their thoroughness!
property sign construction Meanwhile, back at the Cascading Waters lodge, the rest of our group along with the SARC volunteers worked on frames for new property signs.

It started with raw materials and inspiration...

...which led to bow saw hewing and bark stripping.

Notches were chisled into the wood so the frame pieces would interlock.

More bark stripping, and putting the finishing touches on a new fire danger sign for the trailhead.
