Pt. Judith Our adventure began at the dock at Point Judith, RI, where we waited to board the Block Island ferry. It was our club's third trip to Block Island; the last one being six years ago in 2006. So our return was long overdue. We hit the road early at 6:45 a.m., getting a spot of breakfast at Dunkin' Donuts, then driving the 90 minutes to catch the 9 a.m. ferry.

Mike and Maddy take their seats in the ferry while Tom and Therese hang out on deck, enjoying the view of the bluffs as we approach Block Island.

Group photo Arriving on the island, we gather for a group photo in front of our ferry before splitting into groups and exploring the island!

Three of our four groups rented bikes. Christina and Tom hit the road while Emily and Meaghan get set to start their day.

Christina, Tom and Therese made their way to Southeast Lighthouse, built in 1874, with it's amesome view of Mohegan Bluffs. Fun fact: in 1993, the lighthouse was hydraulically lifted 360 ft inland to avoid the bluffs' erosion.

Tom heads down the walkway to the base of the bluffs where Christina waits on the beach.

Debris had washed up in places along the shore. Wanting to emulate a Brooks Brothers advertisement, Tom pretends to play tug-of-war with an old ship rope.

Wildlife abounds on Block Island, including a turtle crossing the road! Christina and Tom stopped traffic until it was safely across. See the whole saga in our Facebook album.

Cow Cove Our next destination was North Lighthouse at the island's northern tip, about 4.4 miles from the ferry landing. It's seen here at the far end of Cow Cove.

Christina checks out North Lighthouse and Therese explores the adjacent dunes.
