Policy on Animals
After hearing many concerns from members of the Clark community, we had discussions about the difficult issue of animals and animal waste on Clark's campus. Specifically, people raised concerns about the number of unleashed animals and the amount of waste that owners were leaving around campus. We reviewed past practices and policies at Clark and spoke with pet owners, especially students.
As a result of our discussions we have decided to restate the following policy, which has been in effect for many years at Clark. We will also be making efforts to more vigorously enforce it in an attempt to solve what has become a difficult and persistent problem. Therefore, effective immediately:
Violations of any of the above policies will result in a fine of $50.00 for the first offense; the fine will jump to $100.00 for a subsequent offense. Persistent problems may be dealt with judicially for students or through appropriate means for non-students.
It should be noted that this policy extends to all Clark University members, including undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, staff, and administrators. It is important to also keep in mind that we considered banning animals altogether from the campus. We have decided not to do that at this point, but we are keeping the option open in the future if these guidelines do not seem to address the problem. Please feel free to contact any of us about this policy. We look forward to working with you to make the campus a more pleasant place for all its members.
